For the youngest children, daycare and in-home care establishments are available, as are several private and public preschool programs. Options include: (1) three integrated public preschools, (2) a Head Start program, (3) the Juneau Montessori School, offering AMI Montessori education for toddlers through kindergarteners, (4) a second Montessori-based program for preschoolers, and (5) a number of private preschool and daycare programs.

For elementary children, Juneau has five public elementary schools and one public charter school which serve students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Two private Christian elementary schools serve students from kindergarten through eighth grade. The Montessori elementary program is currently organized as a public school-within-a-school and serves students in grades 1 through 6.

For middle school students, there are two public middle schools in Juneau which serve students in grades 6-8. The Adolescent Montessori Program, serving grades 7 and 8 offers the only public alternative. There are two private Christian schools which also serve children through 8th grade, and one private non-parochial school.

For high school students, Juneau has one public high school serving grades 9 -12. An alternative public high school program serves up to 100 students per year, most of whom may not otherwise complete high school.

For older students, the University of Alaska Southeast has a campus in Juneau. An affiliate of the larger University of Alaska, this small university offers mainly two- and four-year college degree programs. It also offers limited dual-enrollment options for high school students.
