Lesson 5 - Confluence Macros - Learn Confluence

This page demonstrates Confluence macros. A macro in computer lingo is like an abbreviation; it is statement or instruction that will later be expanded into something larger. In Confluence, a macro is an instruction in a page that Confluence will replace with calculated content every time the page is viewed. It may be helpful to think of a Confluence macro as a formula in Excel; when you edit a cell, you can see the formula, but when you view the spreadsheet, you see the result, or value, of the formula. When you edit a Confluence page, you can see the macros, but when you view the page, you see the result of the macros.

Confluence provides a selection of macros that are useful for web sites. Examine at the contents of this page, then press the edit tab to see what macros are present to produce the page you viewed. You may want to move back and forth between View and Edit several times.

If a web publishing problem comes to mind that you might solve with a macro, stay on this page and explore Confluence macros. If macros don't look interesting, you probably don't have any web publishing problems that require macros, and you should move on.
