Take a look at the contents of this page. You can see a variety of formatting features, including tables, bulleted lists, numbered lists, and links.
Select the Edit tab and browse the edit toolbar.

Add a row to the table, add some items to the bulleted list or numbered list... create a new table or list.
Editing through a web browser is not exactly the same as editing in Microsoft Word. Don't expect too much. But simple text formatting is simple, and complex text formatting is possible.
Try the Rich Text, Wiki Markup, and Preview tabs to see different views of the page.

If the Wiki Markup view looks too geeky, you can ignore it. If you like geeky, you can make the Wiki Markup view your default view.
This lesson may also introduce the complexity of multiple simultaneous editing, a complexity that Confluence handles, but one which you may not frequently encounter in actual use. If multiple people are editing the same page at the same time, the results can be surprising. If this situation occurs, Confluence presents clear messages and reasonable choices.
