Studies

The Juneau Performing Arts Center Commission (PACC) has sponsored studies that document demand for small performing arts venues in Juneau.

The McDowell Group's Juneau Performing Arts Center Needs Assessment surveyed 35 performing arts groups and sponsoring organizations and 24 facilities. Particularly relevant findings include:

Juneau arts groups reported the highest future usage of a smaller-scale venue...

Nearly every arts group contacted agreed that the venues currently available constrained them...
Constraints include:

  • scheduling - too many groups vying for too little space
  • quality – space currently in use was not designed for performances
  • capacity – spaces can be either too-small and too-large
  • cost – larger venues are often too expensive
    ...

The Anchorage Center for the Performing Arts (ACPC) is owned by the city, and is managed by non-profit organization with a Board of Directors....
The ACPA houses eight "resident companies." These are local organizations that fit certain criteria and have preferential booking rights to the theaters.

The Juneau Performing Arts Center Commission released an Interim Report in November of 2003 which, among other things, showed that the daily rental fee for the proposed small performance space might be as high as $500, which would preclude use of that space for many of the Juneau arts communities smaller scale productions.

According to the CBJ Engineering Department Final Report Preliminary Site & Program Analysis the new Performing Arts Center planned for the old Armory site will have a 1,000 to 1,200 seat primary theater and a 250 seat studio theater.
