Who is Montessori and what is SEAFOM?

Maria Montessori was born in 1870 in Ancona, Italy. She developed an educational program for children from birth through young adulthood.

SEAFOM is a non-profit organization which supports Montessori education in Southeast Alaska through communication, organization, and fund-raising.

Why support Montessori education?

It works for a broad crosssection of students. Mainstream education works for many students but it tends to be delivered in a "one size fits all" paradigm. The Montessori method is flexible and approaches each student as a unique individual. The Montessori method is not a fad, it has a century-long track record in a variety of cultures and socio-economic strata.

"I have studied the child. I have taken what the child has given me and expressed it and that is what is called the Montessori method." - Maria Montessori
